Vox von Braun
plays the kind of music that’s blasting out the stereo of two
peroxide-blondes, driving a convertible, in any of your favourite mid-seventies
roadmovies.
The band was founded in 2004
by Wymer Vaatstra (ex-Gluemen) and Frank Hiep (Propeller), because they
shared a similar musical background. Soon afterwards they asked Maike
Doornebosch (bass) to join. After recording their first EP, Lord of
Pesetas, the drummer left the band. With new drummer Janwillem Vanderveen
the band started doing more gigs and was signed to Subroutine records.
The early shows were characterized
by lots of noise, creating a sound reminiscent of shoegaze. Later gigs
brought more balance between popsongs and modern, noisy alienation.
The latter is now typical for the sound of the band.
You might’ve seen them
play at Vera Groningen (supporting The Rifles), doing showcases in (among
others) Amsterdam, Leeuwarden and The Hague, or at Eurosonic 2007.
Early 2007 two new songs were
released on a split 7” with De Nieuwe Vrolijkheid. Recordings
for the upcoming album are planned.
Besides music, the members
of the band share a common interest in black and white films and wine.
